Star Academy Program brings STEM and hands-on learning to Carter C. Raymond Junior High

The Rapides Parish School Board is proud to announce the new installation of the Star Academy at Carter C. Raymond Junior High School in Lecompte, La.

The Star Academy is a program proven to advance and inspire learners through its innovative, hands-on, and technology-driven curriculum. The program harnesses the power of project-based learning to prepare them for the challenges of the modern workforce. With a focus on both independent and collaborative work, Star Academy molds students into young leaders who are prepared for high school and beyond.

The comprehensive program can be tailored to meet the specific needs of students by allowing the district to select courses that align with state standards.

Dr. Jill Summers, principal of Carter C. Raymond Junior High School, expressed excitement about the Star Academy program, stating, “We are excited to offer a program that sets Carter C Raymond apart. Our students will learn critical thinking skills while being immersed in student-initiated project-based learning. They will also be exposed to career opportunities and see real-world connections to what they learn in class. We have already kicked off the program with a soft launch and are impressed with what we are seeing. The students at Carter C. Raymond deserve this opportunity and we are excited to welcome new students.”

Mr. Jeff Powell, Superintendent of Rapides Parish School System, also shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m extremely excited to offer a magnet program at Carter C. Raymond, and to also engage in project-based learning that will give students a vision of what their future career could look like.”
