RPSB Superintendent Jeff Powell and Supervisor of Well-Rounded Education Opportunities and School District Athletic Director Alan Fontenot recognized six schools and eight athletic programs. These teams were recognized for competing and placing at their respective state competitions, along with having multiple players recognized as district or state-level talent. The press conference lasted 30 minutes and both Powell and Fontenot spoke on the importance of extra-curricular activities playing a major role in the success of a student’s education.

“Students and their successes in all areas of their educational journeys deserve to be celebrated at every opportunity,” Fontenot said. “Research continually proves that students who are actively engaged and supported in their passions will achieve at higher rates in all areas of life.  As a community, we are blessed to have leaders and coaches that invest in building the skills and talents of our students. We wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude to these young men, women and their leaders for representing Rapides Parish in outstanding ways on and off the athletic fields.”

During the conference, a coach from the Bolton Bears Powerlifting Team, J.I. Barron Elementary Archery Team, Northwood Lady Gators Basketball Team, Oak Hill Lady Rams Basketball Team, Pineville High School Girls’ Powerlifting Team, Tioga High Lady Indians’ Powerlifting Team, and Tioga High Archery Team spoke on behalf of their teams and gave audience members an inside look into their seasons.
