J B Lafargue Special Education Center believes that all students can learn, and that when learning expectations are high, student achievement is elevated. JBL is dedicated to providing a rigorous education to all students with disabilities, ages 3-21, by working collaboratively with and assisting Rapides Parish schools, teachers and parents. We are advocates for students with disabilities and committed to meeting their unique needs in the least restrictive environment.
TALENTED SCREENING INFORMATION
The RPSB Talented Program provides educational services to students with exceptional artistic ability.
We appreciate your assistance in identifying potentially talented students.
Steps to Folllow:
1. Once a recommendation has been received, SBLC obtains permission to screen.
2. Talented Questionnaire is completed by regular ed. teacher.
3. SBLC collects portfolios and music/theatre videos.
4. Portfolios, videos, and completed paperwork are given to pupil appraisal team.
IMPORTANT DATES: These deadlines MUST be met. No late submissions will be accepted.
1. Submissions of portfolios or music/theatre videos to SBLC: October 14, 2024.
2. SBLC submits portfolios or music/theatre videos, along with completed paperwork to Pupil Appraisal:
October 15, 2024.
3. PA submits portfolios or music/theatre videos and copies of SBLC forms to the G/T office: October 16,
2024
4. All Intake meetings will be coordinated by the Pupil Appraisal Social Worker through the SBLC process.
5. Evaluation dates: November 12 -15, 2024
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
● Please refer to the SBLC Handbook for proper procedures for screening students for talented services.
● The visual art portfolio does not have to be an expensive case to hold art. Two pieces of poster board or cardboard
and tape them together can be used to hold artwork. If the artwork is very small, a simple folder can be used.
● You should label your portfolio and each piece of artwork with your name, school and grade.)
