The first step to becoming a bus operator, bus attendant, or substitute driver is to complete an application in our employment portal

In the portal, you’ll be able to view open positions, qualifications, job descriptions, pay scale, & more.

Complete Background Check & Fingerprints
If the principal chooses to hire the applicant, the principal will make a recommendation for hire to the Human Resources Department. 
  • Human Resources will reach out for fingerprinting.

  • Cost of fingerprinting is $20 and only cash is accepted. LA Wallet is not honored as a form of identification.

Complete Pre-Service Training
A. Louisiana School Bus Driver Training Course - Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT)
1. Introduction to School Bus Driving
2. Rules and Regulations
3. First Aid
4. Defensive Driving
B. Ten or more hours (10+) of Driving and Observation
(Must have CDL Permit)

Get A CDL Physical Examination

Get Commercial Driver's License
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, with Passenger (P) and School Bus Operator (S) Endorsements.

Please follow the guidelines set forth by the Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain a CDL.
6.
DOT Drug Screen
You will need to complete a DOT Drug Screen in order to join the transportation department. 
7.
File Documents
All certifying documents must be filed with the Rapides Parish School Board Transportation Department.
