Assistant Superintendent Jonathan Garrett’s transition as LaSalle’s Superintendent of Schools is underway


ALEXANDRIA, La - Jonathan Garrett, Rapides Parish School Board’s Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, has officially agreed to become the next Superintendent of Schools for the LaSalle Parish School System.
Garrett has been serving as the Assistant Superintendent of the Rapides Parish School System for the past 4 years, overseeing curriculum and instruction for the district and providing support and guidance for the district’s administrators, faculties and students.

“Throughout Mr. Garrett’s educational career in Rapides Parish as a teacher, coach, principal, director or assistant superintendent, he has made everything he’s been a part of and everyone he’s worked with better,” said Superintendent of Rapides Parish Schools Jeff Powell. “We are thankful for his years of dedicated service to the students, employees and communities that make up Rapides Parish.”

Garrett earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Northeast Louisiana University and graduated with a Master's in Educational Leadership from Northwestern State University. During Mr. Garrett’s 25-year educational career, he has served in different capacities such as being principal at Alexandria Senior High School, Buckeye High School and Ruby Wise Elementary School and Director of Secondary Schools.

“I am appreciative to have been a part of Rapides Parish Schools and I look forward to seeing its continued success,” said Garrett. “ I am excited about the opportunity given to me in LaSalle Parish and thankful for the many opportunities I was given here in Rapides Parish.”

Garrett will begin his duties as Superintendent of Schools in LaSalle Parish on May 1, 2023.
