Role Of The School Board
The Rapides Parish School Board consists of nine members, each elected by voters to represent single-member districts. Members serve four-year terms, working to ensure the quality of education of students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 within the parish boundaries.
As a policy-making body, the board is responsible for establishing rules and regulations related to organization, policies, and major plans for Rapides Parish public schools. Additionally, the board appoints a superintendent to oversee the district's budget, manage staff and students, and provide recommendations for effective operations.
Meeting Dates and Times
The Rapides Parish School Board holds its regular meeting at 5:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month. The meeting is open to the public; the board meets in the Board Room of Central Office, located at 619 6th St. in Alexandria, La.
Committees meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. to establish the agenda and to identify the consent agenda items. Additional meetings may be called to consider specific topics at other times.
