Gifted Program Coordinator
Rapides Parish Public Schools offer services for gifted and talented students in grades K-12. Parents who are interested in having their child considered for either or both of these programs may contact their school and request screening through the School Building Level Committee.
The SBLC will then review relevant information pertaining to your student’s unique skill set and determine whether to refer him/her for further school-based testing/enrichment (for gifted consideration) or official evaluation for services (Gifted and/or Talented).
Gifted students are offered enrichment or advanced academic services, the curriculum for which requires more innovative critical thinking than one would expect in the regular education classroom. The skills in identified enrichment areas are taught at a faster pace than the regular classroom, so the student may advance on to more challenging work, at his or her own pace.
The Talented Program provides enrichment for students to further their artistic abilities in three different areas: Theater, Visual Arts, and Music. Students may qualify for one or more of these areas and will receive individualized instruction, which will enhance their educational program through concentrated exposure to the arts.
