Open Enrollment (9-12)

Open Enrollment is a process allowing students in grades 9-12 to apply to attend a high school outside of the student’s transportation/residence zone. The student and parent/guardian must both reside in Rapides Parish. Applications will be accepted upon the student’s initial registration into the district, or during the month of February only. 

GUIDELINES 

To be accepted for Open Enrollment, the student must be in good standing for the year of application as acknowledged by the principal of the sending school. Good standing means:

  • no more than one out-of-school suspension,
  • no expulsion,
  • currently passing all courses,
  • no more than 10 unexcused absences, and
  • no 5th year high school students

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applications must be received no later than 11:59 pm on February 28, 2026. Applicants will receive an approval or denial letter by email to the email address on the application no later than March 20, 2026. Once you have received an approval letter, you must contact the approved school and complete any information that they might need.

Students applying for open enrollment should complete Annual Registration, not new student registration or in-district student transfer.  For example, at the completion of a school year, if your child has been approved for Open Enrollment to a high school of your choice, your enrollment automatically changes to that high school, and you will complete Annual Registration starting in mid-July.

Open Enrollment Steps

Note: Annual registration is required even if the student has an approved Open Enrollment application.

Step 1

Apply for Open Enrollment with this application. 

Step 2

Wait to receive the approval or denial letter from the school board. Once that letter is received via the email address on the application, proceed to the next step. 

Step 3

Contact the school you approved to open enroll in. Once contact has been made, fill out any additional information that the school might need and complete the course request process with the counselor. 

Step 4

Finally, you will complete Annual Registration starting in mid-July.
