Choice

Choice is a process that allows students to apply to attend a school outside of the student’s residence zone. The student and parent/guardian must both reside in Rapides Parish. Applications will be accepted upon the student’s initial registration into the district if they reside in a choice-eligible school zone, or during the month of March only. 

GUIDELINES 

To be accepted for Choice, the student must be in good standing for the year of application as acknowledged by the district’s Student Information System of the sending school. Good standing means:

  • no previous enrollment in an alternative school/program,
  • no more than one out-of-school suspension,
  • no expulsion,
  • no involvement in more than one fight or other act of violence on school grounds or at a school-sponsored event, and
  • no more than 10 unexcused absences

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applications must be received no later than 11:59 PM on March 31, 2026. Applicants will receive an approval or denial letter by email to the email address on the application no later than May 1,  2026. Once you have received an approval letter, you must contact the approved school and complete any information that they might need.

Choice Steps

Note: Annual registration is required even if the student has an approved Choice application.

Step 1

Apply for Choice with this application. Starting on March 1, 2026 and closing on March 31, 2026. Application link will be added on March 1, 2026

Step 2

Wait to receive the approval or denial letter from the school board. Once that letter is received via the email address on the application, proceed to the next step. 

Step 3

If you are new to the district and did not complete the previous school year (May 2026) in a Rapides Parish School, complete New Student Registration. If you are currently enrolled in a Rapides Parish School, then your student will automatically be moved to the new school of Choice for the 26-27 school year. 

Step 4

Once contact from the new choice-approved school has been made, fill out any additional information that the school might need.

Step 5

Finally, you will complete Annual Registration starting in mid-July.
