Back To School
8/6/26
Dear Families,
There is nothing quite like the first week of school, and this one is already off to a strong start! Our teachers have been back on their campuses for a few days now, deep in professional development and working to make sure their classrooms are ready. I know they are excited to welcome our students back for the 2026-2027 school year!
This year we will continue our relentless commitment to our students and community. Our plan is to Amplify the Culture: the people and the energy that make Rapides Parish such a special place to learn and to work.
The students are the best aspect of our work, and we thank you for the trust you place in us. We take it seriously every day, in the care we give your child and in the standard we hold for their learning. Your child will be asked to stretch this year, and they will be supported while they do it.
As we start the school year, I want to say plainly how grateful I am for what everyone in this district does to make Rapides Parish Public Schools so GREAT. I know this will be another historic year of progress. Please continue to work alongside us as we continue to show the world that Rapides Parish truly is Better Together!
To help you plan ahead, here is a printable calendar with holidays and other major dates for the 2026-2027 school year.
Thank you,
Jeff Powell, Superintendent
Rapides Parish School Board

Complete Annual Registration
Rapides Parish requires all students in grades K-12 to complete an online registration process.
For returning students, the primary guardian will update student information and provide current proof of residence through Annual Registration. For new students, the primary guardian will complete a New Student Registration and upload required registration documents.
A valid email address is mandatory for all parents/guardians to complete the registration process. If you do not have an email address, you can create one using this Google link. You can access the email with the Google Gmail App on your phone.

Staggered Start Dates
Friday, August 7th: Even grades 2, 4, 6, 8
Monday, August 10th: Odd grades 1, 3, 5, 7
Alexandria Middle Schools: Brame, Alexandria Middle Magnet, and Arthur F. Smith: All three Alexandria Middle Schools request that Friday, August 7, be reserved for incoming 6th grade students only. Beginning middle school is a major transition, and providing students with a dedicated first day would help them become familiar with the campus, routines, teachers, and expectations in a smaller, less intimidating environment. The day would include a welcome program, staff introductions, campus tours, procedure practice, time to meet each teacher, and activities designed to build school spirit and a sense of belonging. Seventh and eighth grade students would begin on Monday, August 10, with their regular schedules, and all students would report together on Tuesday, August 11.
Peabody Magnet, Tioga High School, Pineville High School and Alexandria Senior High: 9th graders only attend on Friday, August 7.
Buckeye High School: 6th and 9th graders only on Friday, August 7 for traditional orientation. All students attend on Monday, August 10.
