Rapides Parish Title I operates school-wide programs which
allow a team of people on campus to develop a plan to upgrade the entire
education program of a school. Title I services can be combined with
services from other sources to accomplish this, and students need not be
identified as eligible to participate in Title I funded activities. A few
schools have a Title I Targeted Assistance program in which eligible
children are identified and selected for assistance.
The instructional staff of the Title I department provides technical
assistance and support to administrators, teachers, and support personnel in
Title I
schools. The following are some areas of responsibility:
-
Monitors the supervision of instruction in all Title I
schools
-
Works with principals, school instructional staffs,
parents, and community representatives to develop and implement a good
school-wide or targeted assistance program
-
Initiates and directs professional development
activities for Title I personnel (teachers and paraprofessionals)
-
Provides orientation for new Title I teachers and
paraprofessionals
-
Assists school administrators, Title I teachers, and
Title I paraprofessionals in interpreting and implementing school board,
state, and federal policies.
