The Food and Nutrition Program operates under the Division of Nutrition Assistance, Louisiana Department of Education and the United States Department of Agriculture. The Food Service Department serves nutritious, appetizing, and affordable meals to students. The administration believes
that good nutrition is the key to learning and every child has the right to a nutritious breakfast and lunch at the lowest possible price. The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students’ health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices. School meals in this district follow the
recommended Dietary Guidelines for Americans and offer healthy choices to students. Skim and low fat milk, as well as low fat chocolate milk are
offered to all students everyday at breakfast and lunch.

Rapides Parish school food service is constantly striving to improve the nutrition integrity of our program. In efforts to do so, a district wide wellness
policy has been developed that sets standards and goals in the areas of nutrition integrity, physical activity, nutrition education, and other school
based activities. The new policy was implemented in July of 2006. In addition, a HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) Food Safety Plan
has been implemented in all schools. All schools follow standard operating procedures for the safe handling of food to insure the safety of the meals
we serve.
