Rapides Academy for Advanced Academics and Virtual Learning is a face-to-face academic magnet program for students in grades 6-8 and a virtual learning program for students in grades 9-12. Rapides Academy provides students with unique learning opportunities through advanced academics. The challenging curriculum and safe learning environment allows our students to achieve high levels of academic and social development.

At Rapides Academy, we provide a one-of-a-kind middle school experience while preparing each child for success in his or her high school, college, and career choices. Our amazing faculty and staff are passionate about our school and excited about our plans for the 2017-18 school year.

Uniform Information:

  • White, grey, navy, or red three-button shirt (red shirts allowed for 2017-18 school year only)
  • Navy or khaki pants
  • Black or brown belt
  • Any closed toe shoes; no flip flops or crocs
    --Students should wear tennis shoes for PE

Admissions  

Because grades 6-8 at Rapides Academy for Advanced Academics and Virtual Learning are an academic magnet program, students are selected on a competitive basis.  In order to qualify for consideration for this academic magnet program, students must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • A minimum of 2.5 G.P.A. on final report for appropriate age/grade level 
  • A minimum of Basic on language arts, math, science, and social studies on LEAP 2025 exams.

Upon meeting these eligibility requirements, students will be selected according to the following selection priorities.

Documents Required to Apply for Admission

  • Completed Rapides Academy Application
  • Completed RPSB Magnet Application
  • Completed Lunch form
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of shot record
  • Copy of social security card
  • Copy of last report card
  • Copy of most recent standardized test scores

To be considered for eligibility, applications must be turned in by the registration deadline with all of the required supporting documents. Applications are not prioritized based on the date submitted. In other words, an application received on February 19 will not be given priority over an application received on March 1.

Per Board Policy JBCD - Student Transfer and Withdrawal 

The school’s capacity for each grade level will determine the number of vacancies. The following priorities will be used to select students:

  • Priority #1 – Siblings of students currently enrolled in the academic magnet program
  • Priority #2 – Students who do not qualify for free/reduced lunch
  • Priority #3 – Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch

Fifty percent of the vacancies remaining after Priority #1 students have been selected will be used to fill seats available for Priority #2. A random selection process will be used to determine which applicants are selected from each priority. Siblings of current Phoenix students will be given priority. However, siblings are not automatically accepted. Siblings must meet all eligibility requirements and submit a completed application on time. In addition, a sibling cannot be accepted if no openings are available.

Uniform Information

Shirts:

  • Collared shirt with three buttons
  • White, Grey, and Navy shirts

Pants:

  • Shorts, Skirts, or Pants
  • Navy or Khaki
  • Short and skirt length should be no more than 4 inches about the knee.

 Belts:

  • Black or Brown

Shoes:

  • Students must wear tennis shoes for PE.
  • No crocs, flip-flops, house slippers, or roller shoes.
  • All sandals must have a strap on the back to secure footwear to the foot for safety.
  • Closed toe shoes will be required on science lab days for safety.

Out-of-Uniform Days
On occasion, the students will be rewarded with an Out-of-Uniform Day or Free Dress Day.  These days will be at the discretion of school administration.  Students must still adhere to the Rapides Parish School Board Dress Code Policy.  Students will be advised as to when these will occur and what constitutes appropriate dress.
